Catskill Trip

June 30, 2006

A quick trip to the Catskills after the flooding that caused so much damage upstate. There are a few pictures of the flood damage, but mostly we avoided documenting people's misery. We do have some great pictures of some of our favorite places — many taken by Tawna.

Suggestions are welcome - just send me an email.

"Flood Damaged Sidewalk"

"Flood Damaged Cornfield"

Flood Damaged Cornfield

Flood waters have deposited much of the roadbed in the cornfield. This is one of untold many "minor" damage incidents that someone has to deal with.

"Mountain Laural"

Mountain Laural

The rainy weather has been good for the wildflowers. There are many clumps of these (which I believe are Mountain Laurel) all along the road.

Temporary Waterfall

Another example of how wet it still was — this is one of many waterfalls that are normally not seen along this route.

Pepacton Bridge Fishing Access

At the bridge crossing the Pepaction Reservoir, fisherman leave their boats up on the shore. I fear many didn't pull theirs high enough this year.

Ashokan Spillway (06/30/06)

The Ashokan reservoir spillway handles a lot of water after recent heavy rains. Tawna got this great shot of the man-made falls, and wheeling birds.

Across the road from the spillway, a raging river results from excess water running out of the reservoir.
